F-Lock and Filter

My header artwork is "Naughty Girl" by the fabulous [info]masterofmercury.

Comment here if you want me to friend you. Please allow up to a month for delivery friending. I'm very lazy, you see. Also it makes me more comfortable to friend people who don't have COMPLETELY blank journals, or people who can tell me who they were on LJ. If you give me that info, I'll friend you back more quickly. Also, please friend me back/friend me first. I do occasionally go through my f-list and cull people who haven't friended me, just on the basis that they're probably not reading me anyway.

A Testimonial: [info]shigola said, "[info]the_con_cept is like crack! And not that low-grade, got it from a sketchy guy on a dodgy corner-type crack either. No this is premium, gotta know a guy who knows a guy to have a hope in hell of scoring something this good-type stuff. (I may have run that drug metaphor into the ground, oh well.) Seriously though, I love [info]the_con_cept 'cuz the premise is always cracktastic and bizarro things happen but the fics themselves are suprisingly realistic and down-to-earth. Plus, they make me laugh."

Also, in order to be friended, you must meet the following requirements; you must be at least THIS tall; you must be vetted and able to withstand a Republican smear-campain; you must be able to name at least twenty states (and they have to be GOOD states); you have to know all the verses to at least one Meatloaf song; you must forsake all other overlords, and YOU MUST BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE SATIRE, even if it's overcooked. Especially if it's overcooked. You must like your satire a bit on the crispy, slightly stringy side. :D

P.S. On a slightly more serious note: I am a sexual assault survivor. This space is a safe space for sexual assault survivors. I will do anything I have to do to make it so. And if you ever have the balls to complain about survivors 'playing the rape card' or 'victim olympics' I will de-friend you immediately and think you are pond scum.

Yummy!

*beams* YOU GUISE! Check out the fic written for me at the [info]snarry_swap fest! It's called Freak and it was written by [info]eriador117, so you know it's good. It's wonderfully kinky with a lovely Harry (I love the occasional slightly delicate, needy Harry) and hawt hawt hawtness! Rawr!

*scratches head* Why did I not answer any of the comments on my hp_cross_fest fic? Did I start and then forget? I'm very puzzled. Do you think it's okay to answer them now? I feel like such a brat for not replying to comments. Will it seem weird if I respond this far out? How long is too long?

Dacro

For day three of my fandom appreciation foojigger, I wanted to wax lyrical on [info]dacro, who is not only an awesome fandom friend, but quite possibly the nicest person I have ever met. Whenever I read a truly horrible news story or hear some vicious gossip, I make myself feel better by remembering there are people like [info]dacro in this world, balancing things out. She's compassionate, she's funny, she's really smart, and she has wonderful people skills. I challenge you to be in the same room for her for ten minutes and NOT walk out feeling like you've made a great new friend. The time I spent with her and [info]adele_sparks at Terminus, gluing fangs on Basilisks, was quite possibly the most fun I've ever had in my life. We sat and laughed and acted like goofs and talked about writing and deep subjects and her excellent, excellent Snarry Games story and transformative works and really, it was just amazing. I love you, [info]dacro! And thank you for the lovely card!!!

In other news, I was supposed to have jury duty today but the trials fell through, yay! In less yay news, our entire office is sick, lol. You'd think you were walking into St. Mungo's or something, seeing us all slouching at our desks, red-eyed, coughing and sneezing. Luckily, I took that Zicam so my cold is the most mild. I get the occasional sneezing spell, but mostly I'm okay. Everyone else looks like death on wheels.

Also, I'm very sorry, but I decided not to do stories on the postcards because I just don't have room. My handwriting is so bad I can't fit anything coherent on there. So instead I'll try to do a Snarry for all of you here soon.

OH, OH! And I forgot to tell you! [info]amethyst_hunter's card is THE BEST! I laughed so hard! I will scan it tomorrow to share. I love her doodles. Thank you, [info]amethyst_hunter! I hope you get your gifts soon!

Eeyore9990

For the second day of Christmas, I wanted to give props to [info]eeyore9990. For starters, Eey just plain makes fandom fun. She recs, she writes (well, I might add), she betas, she cheerleads, she stands up for people who can't stand up for themselves. She is one of my favorite people in fandom. Plus, she's funny as heck and tells the best anecdotes. She's also super open-minded and always there for me when I need to try a new kink but sort of need someone to hold my hand, and her ability to brainstorm is second to none. Seriously, I have a fest fic coming up and it would have been just a regular old smutty fic, but Eey helped me come up with an ending that had me roaring with laughter! I'm so happy to know Eeyore9990.

And in other news, once again, ZICAM ROCKS! I feel 85% better than I did this morning. Not perfect, but dude, I even started a drabble for [info]alisanne. Hopefully other drabbles will follow. I love being productive!

Accioslash

I've decided that for the next few weeks, I'm going to do appreciation posts. It's sort of like a twelve days of why fandom rocks so hard.

So! First up--[info]accioslash. For starters, her holiday card made me squawk with laughter, then immediately become envious I hadn't thought of it first. [info]accioslash's writing and drawing is usually like that. I have a tremendous admiration for her work, but at the same time I never fail to go, "Damn! Why wasn't I clever enough to have come up with that! Not fair!" A big part of that is because Accio has that fabulous sense of humor I admire so much; sly and twinkly with just enough of the ribald to be truly, truly awesome. She manages to be enormously entertaining no matter what the subject. Moreover, I had the wonderful experience of hanging with her in person at Terminus, and it was a highly entertaining visit. Her humor and talent add so much to our fandom!

WOO-HOO!

LOOK AT MY NEW JOURNAL HEADER ARTWORK! JUST LOOK AT IT! IT WAS DONE BY THE INCOMPARABLE MASTEROFMERCURY AND IT IS THE MOST AWESOMEST THING EVER EVER EVER! I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO USE IT AND TONIGHT I ASKED IF I COULD AND SHE SAID YES AND I AM HAPPY CONCEPT, HAPPY, HAPPY CONCEPT!

It is so awesome, in fact, that when she gave me permission to use it I promptly flailed and knocked over my tequila--three times.

I'm so happy it's not even funny. It's even better than seeing a house I liked. For serious. That says something about my priorities, but what the hell. It's so pretty it could even go with For a Reasonable Fee or Comes at a Cost.

This is the happiest day EVAR.

Now go read Naughty Girl. It's the teeny ficlet I did a few years ago for this pic. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Nov. 20th, 2009

Oh, jeez. I just got hit with a silly idea for a follow up in my Pink!verse. I wonder if I can sustain it? It would be short, but I think I may need to write it. More flamingo!Harry! :D Super silly fun.

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

• Update your journal with the answers to the questions

• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

Oh my God, why the hell do I suddenly have Green Jelly's song "Three Little Pigs" stuck in my head? That's gotta be a sign of impending psychosis.

AO3

I'm now Abstractconcept on an Achive of Our Own for the beta stages. (If you want an account there, put in your email address and they will send you one when it becomes available. I only had to wait a couple of days. Of course, right now it's in testing, not yet a sleek and perfect archive). There are only a few things I'm confused about so far. The warnings they have are not really enough, so one person suggested using tags to supplement, which I've been doing. I'm just not sure if I'm sort of abusing the tags. I'm trying to use them to suggest the flavor of my story. But I think the suggestion that we use them for warnings makes me feel like maybe I shouldn't put things in there willy-nilly. I only use a few tags per fic, though. At any rate, I'll follow the discussion as it continues to happen. My ONLY other real complaint is that it's great with formatting my html from other sites--except for scene breaks. My oOoOoOos never stay centered, so I unfailingly have to go in and put the html for that. But I haven't figured out if this is a problem on my end--I tend to code strangely or forget certain things. So I need to look into that. Other than that, it seems pretty good. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it--only about an hour, in which I uploaded five fics. I love that it can pretty much code for me (GOD, how I love that) and I love that you can break things into chapters if you want, but it can also handle large fics.

I'm curious to see how it will work out feedback-wise. That's one of the main things I like about journal sites as opposed to archives--journals foster conversation and feedback MUCH better than archives do. But I do like having somewhere to keep all my stuff and so far this is pretty slick, though there's room for improvement in the warnings.

Of course, playing with it helps you figure lots of things out--you can put notes in as well, so you could also put warnings there. No big deal. And it does your wordcount for you! Isn't that fun? :D I'll play with it more tonight if I have a chance. I want to search other people and fics and things and see how that works.

That is some fucking brilliant satire, right there.

Argh! I will finish Sucks if it takes me all fucking night, and work be damned! I already realized one line just wasn't going to go where I was trying to cram it and went back and put it in earlier, but now I need to get the last few paragraphs to mesh. MESH, DAMN YOU, SUCKING PARAGRAPHS! *shakes little fists of exasperated frustration*

It Sucks to be Severus Snape (Part 14)

Okay guys, only one more chapter left! It should be up tomorrow. :D

Oh, my god. HOW long have I been doing this? I've been in fandom since 2003, right? I'm jaded. I'm cynical. I'm not some silly little newbie. But the idea of trying to approach one of my favorite fan-artists and ask if they do commissions has literally reduced me to a whimpering, shaking, terrified wreck! I have never even spoken to some of these artists because they intimidate me so. Every time I try to comment on one of their entries, I turn to jelly. I can't think of anything good enough to say about art this fine. And it's fan art! How is it so intimidating, considering it's the same thing I do only in a different medium and maybe a little bit nicer? Eurgh. What if I ask someone and they go, "Who the hell are you, you little nobody? You've never bothered to comment on my work before, and now you're asking me to draw something for you?" When, in fact, most of the time I don't comment it's because I'm too shy.

Jesus, you'd think I was asking for someone's hand in marriage.

Maybe I should backburner this idea until I can grow a pair. I had no idea merely saying hello to someone could be so terrifying. o_O

Commissions?

*sigh* You know what I've been wanting to do? Commission some fanart. For me. I've commissioned fanart as gifts, but never just for me. I was thinking I'd like something as a header on my journal. What do you think? Of course, I'd have to be able to find someone who a) has the time b) isn't too expensive and c) whose work I like and is willing to do something I want. I don't think I want anything too smutty. It's something I look at when I'm at work, after all. I was thinking maybe a series of characters just looking sexy (winking, crooking a finger, smirking, that type of thing) like Remus, Scorpius, Harry and Snape sort of thing. Oh, or them holding up a banner with 'Abstract Concept' written on it, giving you the various sexy looks to invite you into my journal? What do you think? For you artists, is that a lot of work? Would it be easier to commission a pure Snarry? That kind of works for me, because it's what I'm known for. Does anyone have any thoughts? How long do these usually take? Is there anyone you wouldn't work with (i.e. let you down before or took forever without letting you know what was going on)?

Bah, I don't know. I really shouldn't spend the money, but I WANTS it!

Oh, and on a complete change of subject, An Archive of Our Own sounds pretty good. I know it's still in beta, but I'd kind of like to put some stuff there. Eventually, anyway. If it's easy enough to use. I really like the idea of having a place to put ALL my fanfic, and it lets you do huge stories, too. So I hear, anyway.
